Beth Israel’s downtown Roanoke location and close proximity to neighboring properties provided an extremely limited material laydown area for this project, but the team at MB Contractors was up to the task. We offer outstanding expertise in projects with tight timeframes, difficult site conditions, tough scheduling, or neighborhood relations challenges like this one, where crews were working mere feet away from neighboring private residences.

The Beth Israel Synagogue project entailed an 11,223 square-foot addition and renovation to 9,179 square feet of existing space. The addition included a new social hall, kitchen, bathrooms, Minyan Room, rabbi offices, reception area, and a new corridor to the sanctuary. Construction also included a basement area for future expansion and renovations to existing classroom spaces.

Exterior work included adding a new parking lot and playground area while being sure to create minimal disruption to life for the residents in the synagogue’s surrounding neighborhood. Beth Israel Synagogue remained fully operational throughout construction, demonstrating our team’s unique ability to plan, manage, and execute construction and renovation projects at occupied, active facilities.

During the project, the role of construction manager was vacated by the existing construction management firm. The project owner was so pleased with MB’s work to that point that we were asked to assume the role. With the MB team managing construction, beautiful, high-quality results were achieved with virtually no impact on synagogue operations and neighborhood community life.
