HISTORY

MB Contractors is built upon a legacy of success. From our founding in 1912 by brothers A.P. and Jim Martin, MB has grown into one of Virginia’s largest and most respected general contractors.

From preconstruction to occupancy, MB never loses sight of our core values. Our projects are a direct result of how we work – by conducting business openly and honestly and, most of all, to deliver what is promised.

Founded as Martin Bros. Contractors, Inc., the company’s roots were in building and renovating properties for investors in the early days of Roanoke, Virginia. As the region grew, so did Martin Bros. Focusing initially on retail and manufacturing, the company has since contributed to some of the region’s most visible buildings.

CEO Jed Hammer, who started with the company as a laborer in 1971, purchased the company from the Martin family in 1982. Since this time and with the help from part owners, Todd Morgan and Mike Cagle, MB has grown from a grassroots organization to a multi-million-dollar company with projects throughout the region.

Over the years, MB has broadened its scope, constructing buildings to support healthcare and senior living, education, hospitality, governments, manufacturing, churches and other industries.

Today, even as it expands in both capabilities and geographical reach and incorporates sustainable design and other industry-leading innovations, our mission is the same – a trusted advisor delivering quality construction to help you achieve your vision.
