MB Contractors, Inc.’s 44,375 SF tenant upfit to AECOM’s three-floor Wachovia Tower office space achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Silver Certification for Commercial Interiors.
MB Contractors teamed with AECOM—ranked the #1 design firm by Engineering News Record (ENR)—to incorporate numerous sustainable elements and earn 27 credits under the U.S. Green Building Council’s rating system. During construction, MB Contractors implemented an indoor air quality plan to reduce airborne contaminants. Elements of the plan included the use of low-VOC adhesives, paint, and carpet, as well as composite wood materials with no added urea formaldehyde resins. Additional green features include the reuse of existing wall and ceiling systems, wall insulation made from 100% recycled denim, regionally produced building materials, recycled aluminium door and window frames, and cork flooring with 90% post-industrial recycled content.
MB Contractor’s green portfolio includes Heartwood: Southwest Virginia’s Artisan Gateway, Blue Ridge Community College’s new information technology building, and the Higher Education Center’s Claude Moore Education Complex, which received LEED Gold certification—the Valley’s first LEED Gold project.
